Death of Thomas in Crépol: why the far right is demonstrating in Romans sur Isère ?

Spread the love

Young Thomas died in Crépol a year ago. To pay tribute to him, a far-right group will demonstrate on Saturday, despite the family's reluctance.

The demonstration will finally take place. While the Drôme prefecture had banned a gathering in tribute to young Thomas, who died in Crépol on November 19, in Romans-sur-Isère for risking public order, the demonstration will finally take place. According to information from BFMTV, the arrest taken by the prefecture was finally suspended on Friday, November 29.

This rally is organized by the far-right collective “Justice for Our People”, which fights against “the savagery of our society”. A position that is not shared by the teenager's family. Indeed, a rally was initially scheduled to take place on November 19 in Romans-sur-Isère, exactly one year after the murder, but had been postponed due to the reluctance of Thomas's relatives. It was finally postponed on November 30, at 3:30 p.m.

A murder that caused unrest

Although the perpetrator of the fatal stabbing of Thomas has still not been identified, 14 people have been charged. They are mainly from the Monnaie district of Romans. The latter had been stormed by far-right activists after Thomas' death, suspecting a racist crime, which was not proven by the investigation.

It was in this context of tension that the Drôme prefecture announced on Monday that gatherings would be banned this weekend. The group reacted quickly on Monday at noon by announcing “the filing of a summary judgment” on social media. Its members ultimately won their case. For the moment, the teenager's grieving family has not responded to this authorization.
