What happened on this day:
Today the Orthodox Church honors the memory of Reverend Daniel Stolbnik. The saint was born in Mesopotamia in 410. His parents Elijah and Martha could not conceive a child for a long time, so Daniel's mother made a vow to the Lord: if she becomes pregnant, she will give the baby to serve in the monastery. After some time, the couple received good news. When the child was 5 years old, he was sent to a monastery. There the boy was named Daniel. At the age of 12, he takes tonsure and conscientiously fulfills his duties. He received the nickname Stolbnik, as he lived for 33 years in the Phrygian desert, where he sat on a pillar built with his students.
