What happened on that day:
Today the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the martyr Procopius of Caesarea.
He was a reader in the Caesarean church in Jerusalem, translating Holy Scripture into Syriac and expounding church texts. Also, Procopius of Caesarea healed the sick, supported the poor, helped the weakened.
At that time, the governor of Palestine persecuted Christians. Hearing about Procopius and his miracles, he ordered the reader to be seized. After his arrest, he was forced to renounce his faith, but he stood his ground. For this, the preacher was executed. The people called this day “Prokopy Day”, “Prokop”, “Vikhostav”, “Prokopiy”.
December 5 in Ukraine is celebrated as the Day of Statisticians. In the world – the International Day of the Volunteer for the sake of economic and social development.
