The leadership of the National office for Aeronautics and space research, NASA decided in deference to doctors on the cutting edge of the fight against the pandemic coronavirus (but at the same time, obviously, and to stir interest in his project), to send to the Red planet, a special commemorative plaque.
This is stated in the message on the Agency’s website.
It will take on the new Mars Rover called Perseverance (Perseverance), which is scheduled to launch next month.
“We wanted to show our appreciation to those who jeopardized their personal well-being for the benefit of others. We hope that when future generations go to Mars and meet with one of our Rover, they will remember that on Earth in 2020 was such people“, — said the Deputy head of project Perseverance Matt Wallace.
Dimensions plate — 8 to 13 cm, it’s made of aluminum, and depicted the Earth and the rod of Asclepius — symbol of medicine. Also in the background is visible the trajectory of the Rover to the red planet.
Deliver this memorial sign to the crater of Jezero, the Geology of which is to examine Perseverance.
The plaque will remain on Mars forever, and will be the first such alien monument (on the moon there is a memorial in honor of the dead astronauts and cosmonauts, but the Moon is not a planet, a satellite of the Earth).
NASA reported that the launch of the mission “Mars-2020” is scheduled for July 20, 2020, and to land on Mars, the new Rover should be in February 2021. Program mission, during which the Rover will overcome the average of 200 meters in one Martian day, includes research, which should help to assess the conditions on ancient Mars and to find possible traces of microorganisms lived there. In addition, the researchers intend to study geological processes on the planet and collect in one place the rock samples, which in the future may be able to be delivered on the Ground in other missions. Also, the Rover will test technologies that are associated with a possible landing on Mars people. With the Rover to Mars is planned to send unmanned aircraft Mars Helicopter.
