Driver arrested for impaired driving after helicopter chase
Police followed the suspect approximately 40 km from Oshawa to Kawartha Lakes.
Police Durham County near Toronto apprehended a motorist for impaired driving after a chase for approximately 40 km.
The pursuit spread on October 13 between Oshawa and Kawartha Lakes, before the 35-year-old driver was arrested in a wooded area.
Police say they have x27;first spotted the Whitby man driving erratically around 10:20 p.m. that day.
Officers attempted to intercept him at a traffic light red, but he instead sped up and refused to stop, police said.
Officers then ended the road chase for public safety reasons, but the nearby police department helicopter took over after identifying the vehicle from the air.
Officers placed a portcullis on the roadway to arrest him.
The suspect then reportedly fled on foot, before x27;being eventually arrested by the police.

Driver faces multiple charges including:
- impaired driving
- dangerous driving
- driving with an open bottle of alcohol
- novice driver with a blood alcohol level above zero
