The discontent has increased a notch at the beginning of this year among the Béziers railway workers. Some of the drivers and controllers on the Béziers-Neussargues line have gone on strike. A movement that could continue.

Rail traffic has been disrupted since Sunday, January 5 on the Béziers-Neussargues line, which passes through Bédarieux and Millau, among other places, before reaching Cantal. SNCF agents in Béziers denounce “the lack of staff in their residences. Staff are called upon from Narbonne or elsewhere and if there are none, traffic is disrupted”, explains, among others, the CGT in a press release, mentioning that it has “alerted, on multiple occasions, the management of the SNCF on the lack of staff which leads to train cancellations. Around ten TER and Intercité trains have been cancelled on the Béziers-Bédarieux-Millau line and beyond. The SNCF public rail service on the Causses line is seriously undermined by the cost-cutting policy practised by the SNCF.”

On average, a dozen trains run at daily

On average, this line between Béziers and Neussargues sees a dozen trains running daily. There are 13 on Wednesdays and 7 on Sundays. In total, there are 33 drivers and 23 controllers working in Béziers on this line: “The inhabitants of the high cantons have the right, like other users, to take the train in good conditions, insist the strikers who believe that there are not enough human resources to ensure a quality service. The CGT and the railway workers are demanding that the necessary staff be quickly put in place.”

This Tuesday, September 7, the Béziers railway workers will meet in assembly to determine whether or not they will continue their movement.
