Bradley Jando, an auto expert from the UK suggested using the air recirculation function in the car to save fuel in the heat. By pressing the button that activates this function, you can quickly cool the car interior and at the same time reduce the load on the engine, which it usually feels when the air conditioner is running, informs Ukr.Media.
A working air conditioner that takes air from street and, cooling, feeds into the cabin, puts an additional load on the engine, reduces the power of the car and increases fuel consumption by almost 10%. But if you activate the air recirculation function, the interior of the car will quickly cool down without using the air conditioner. The same principle works in winter, when the car interior needs to be quickly heated.
The button that activates the air recirculation function is located on the air conditioner control panel. You can recognize it by the image of a bent arrow inside the silhouette of the car. In some models, the icon may differ in the number and curvature of the arrows that form a circle.
