Seven people who controlled drug trafficking in Montérégie were arrested on Wednesday morning as part of a large police operation still ongoing, said the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
They are seven men, aged 22 to 69, from Sorel-Tracy, Saint-Gérard-Majella, Massueville and Yamaska. Among them are members of organized crime, including the Hells Angels, said SQ spokeswoman Audrey-Anne Bilodeau.
Some had weapons loaded on them, added Ms. Bilodeau, which required the involvement of the Tactical Intervention Group. Other arrests related to the same case could occur soon, said the SQ.
These arrests come after an investigation launched in November 2020 which had led to searches the year next. More than $200,000 in Canadian currency, various narcotics, firearms and objects related to organized crime and drug trafficking were then seized.
This police operation attributed to the Regional Mixed Squad (ERM) Montérégie is the result of a partnership between various police services to fight against organized crime, in all regions of Quebec.
The seven Arrested suspects could face charges related to conspiracy, possession, possession for the purpose of trafficking, drug trafficking, as well as laundering the proceeds of crime, police said. They will remain detained until their video appearance later on Wednesday.
