Dua Lipa, Maes, The Weeknd … A look back at the best albums of 2020

This week, no new music playlist, but a 100% Christmas playlist with Mariah Carey, Wham, Justin Bieber … In short, you will love it! Yes, the year is soon over, the opportunity for us to take stock of the albums of 2020. So which artists have marked the year? Who are those who have made albums that we will listen to repeatedly for several more years? We take stock right away! And if you like the selections, we have prepared the best clips of 2020 for you (without spoiling too much, there is Miley Cyrus x Dua Lipa, The Weeknd, 13 Organized or even SCH x Gims!)

Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia

Winning return! After three years, she returned with a second which allowed her to impose herself in the world of pop. Dua Lipa persist and sign with Future Nostalgia one of the best albums of 2020! Between current sounds, disco influences of the 70s and pop of the 2000s, the whole is very coherent and well produced. The hit titles follow one another, we like it a lot!

Maes – The last bastards

The last bastards had to be in this selection! Maes offers us a record with Afro, Latin sounds, without forgetting of course the trap … You will understand, the rapper made an opus well in his time which sticks to the codes! We will remember the feats with Booba, Jul and Ninho, very produced. We recommend this album to new generation rap fans and to those who like urban pop with energetic productions.

13 Organized – 13 Organized

The Organized 13 project brings together more than 50 Marseille artists who have marked rap from the 90s to today. The album contains 13 tracks (necessarily) and a lot of nuggets for lovers of this musical genre! We particularly like “The star on the jersey” where we find L’algérino, Alonzo, Stone Black, Le Rat Luciano, Sch, Jul, As & Veazy because the title is a good mix of old-fashioned rap and new generation codes. “War Zone” with THABITI, Naps, Alonzo, Houari, Jul, As, Zbig & AM You might like La Scampia! Note, the album’s prods are particularly effective as well.

The Weeknd – After Hours

We had to say it at least once in this selection: It’s the album of maturity! But at the same time, it’s true: In this album, The Weeknd gradually lets go of rap and reinvents RNB by adding very 80’s Synthpop tones. After Hours is a compendium of all the genres he has experienced in Kiss Land, Beauty behind the Madness and Starboy. The productions and lyrics are incredibly accurate, and the single “Blinding Lights” will have put everyone in agreement. Clearly, The Weeknd is one of the most talented artists of recent years …

Damso – QALF

After months and months of teasing, the Belgian rapper unveiled QALF in September 2020, an opus of incredible richness, whether in terms of productions or themes. (Fatherhood, women, family …) with the background, Africa. 14 songs (including 3 featurings with Hamza, Lous and The Yakuza and Fally Ipupa) which overcomes the codes to go on radio, to stream because Damso does not need it. He proves it with this honest album, which takes the guts.

Lady Gaga – Chromatica

Chromatica, that was what we needed to survive this year 2020! An album filled with BOPs, fun, positive and totally unifying. To make up for the too short duration of the songs, Gaga imagined three interludes that perfectly link the whole tracklist. We really like the titles “Alice”, “Sour Candy” that she shares with the BLACKPINKs or even “Babylon” son “Vogue” to her. The sounds remind us of the 90s and this is not to displease us. A very beautiful project with an artistic direction worked and assumed. We stream on repeat!
