A land agreement protocol was signed between this community of communes and ECM Greentech, one of the leaders in France in the renewable low-carbon hydrogen sector, which is about to set up in the Béziers region with the company Genvia.

This agreement concludes negotiations that began in 2022 and which are resulting in a better attractiveness of the territory and also and above all great promises of hiring.“Our community of communes is now positioning itself as one of the first public players concretely linked to the green hydrogen sector. There is no doubt that ECM will necessarily make our economic basin shine, which particularly needs it.” This installation will create no fewer than 250 jobs in the long term. A prospect that Florence Brutus, regional councillor for Hérault in charge of planning and cohesion of rural areas, is also keen on.

A century-old know-how for ECM Greentech, which operates around the world

ECM Greentech, which is located in the Grenoble region, specializes in the design, manufacture, and marketing of industrial furnaces for the growth of photovoltaic silicon and in plant engineering. It is also an equipment manufacturer for the production of renewable energies and energy storage. This company offers turnkey solutions for photovoltaic production lines covering the entire value chain: from silicon purification to photovoltaic panel manufacturing systems. “We are also counting on this perspective which would give our territory an additional asset”, insisted Alain Caralp. The ECM Technologies Group is the world leader in solutions and services for industrial heat treatments with high added value. The company was founded in 1928 and has some 600 employees worldwide. ECM supports global industry in its environmental, ecological and social transition.

The Region has invested a lot

“The Occitanie Region has carried out a long-term project in this area, explains Florence Brutus. Around €4 million has been invested in the purchase of land, but also in all the urban planning and environmental studies. The idea is that if a company needs to set up, it doesn't have to wait years to do so because all the administrative constraints must be studied. It's done ECM wants to set up, it buys the land, it files its permit and it can start building its facilities. It's going very quickly. We call it a de-risked zone. And what's more, the cherry on the cake is that there is access to the railway at the edge of the land. It's exceptional.” It can so there will be a direct rail link with Genvia and with the SNCF network. In this area, the company that manufactures glass bottles has a rail link once a week with the network, with the establishment of ECM, there will be others. It's a whole field of activity that is opening up.

“The connection with the railway will be taken care of by the Region and a link is also being studied, via the Canal du Midi, to reach the port of Sète. The installation will soon begin to be visible and Genvia should follow by 2027-2028.”
