La Commission de régulation de l’énergie a annoncé ce jeudi 16 janvier que la facture d’électricité des Français au tarif réglementé baissera au 1er février de 15 %.
The electricity bill of most French households, or more than 24 million households, will drop by 15% on February 1, a first since 2015, the Energy Regulatory Commission announced on Thursday, January 16. This is a consequence of the end of the tariff shield and the absence of a tax increase, as announced in a decree on December 28.
In December, a decree had formalized the end of the tariff shield on February 1, 2025. At the same time, Michel Barnier was considering a tax increase in his draft finance bill in order to bring in up to €9.4 billion for the State. The decrease would have been 9%.
A first since 2015
Finally, Michel Barnier abandoned the idea of increasing taxes under pressure from censorship. “The tax increases planned in the initial finance bill are not coming into force” and “the decrease in electricity prices should be, as announced by the Prime Minister on November 28, 14% in 2025”, explained the entourage of Marc Ferracci, Minister for Industry and Energy on December 28. Finally, this increase will be 15% as announced by the CRE.
The regulated electricity sales tariffs “are falling because the energy portion (of the bill) is falling very sharply”, indicated the President of the Commission, Emmanuelle Wargon. The CRE has thus made official the exact level of this decrease after two years of sharp increases against a backdrop of energy crisis.
