Elon Musk wants to charge owners of verified Twitter accounts $27 a month

Elon Musk begins to reveal his plans for Twitter.

The new boss of Twitter, Elon Musk, has already begun to send his list of demands to the team of the social network. In the boxes: force subscription to the paid service Twitter Blue to keep the blue checkmark of a verified account.

Twitter Blue would also see a further price hike, going from a monthly cost of US$6.49 to US$20 (approximately C$27.30). Recall that the price of the service, which provides access to a host of features – including a tweet edit button – has already increased by $3 at the end of July.

Owners of verified accounts would have 90 days to subscribe to the Twitter Blue service to retain their blue hook.

This hook makes it possible to identify authentic profiles of stars, political figures or journalists, for example, so as not to fall into the trap of a fake account.

Sunday, the new owner of the social network wrote in a tweet to be revamping the entire verification process for these accounts.

According to internal documents consulted by the specialized site The Verge, Elon Musk put pressure on the team responsible for this project, threatening to fire them if the November 7 deadline for the introduction of this feature was not met.

The boss of Tesla and Space X officially got his hands on Twitter on October 27, for the sum of 44 billion US dollars (about 60 billion Canadian dollars). He immediately fired three top executives: CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and Chief Legal Officer Vijaya Gadde.
