Parkas are having a renaissance. Thanks to a departure from the classic canons of sewing this clothing, now parkas are not only practical, but also very bright and stylish.
Park jackets, which were very popular in the 70s of the XX century, are again returned to fashion and became an integral part of the winter wardrobe, thanks to its qualities, and the variety of colors and styles allow you to choose a parka for every taste.
What is a parka?
A parka is a warm, elongated, loose-fitting jacket to the middle of the thigh, which can be adjusted to the figure with a drawstring drawstring. For sewing such a jacket, a fabric resembling denim is used, impregnated with a special compound that protects against wind and moisture.
Translated from the German park means “skin”. Initially, it was sewn with fur outside and was the main attribute of outerwear among the Mansi and Khanty peoples. The jacket was worn on top of the malitsa (a long outer garment made of deer skins), which was worn over the naked body. Later, parkas began to be sewn for American pilots, as they protected well from low temperatures, wind and moisture. According to another version, the parks have become widespread in Japan as clothing for fishermen. The prototype of the unique cut was the outerwear of the Eskimos, but more modern raw materials were used for tailoring. The water-repellent properties of the material were achieved by impregnating it with fish oil. The unusual cut provided protection from temperatures down to -70°C.
As for the first modern parka model, it was presented by the DuPont brand. The marsh-colored kurta had a high collar that covered the chin, and was sewn from ordinary nylon, with wool as the lining.
What is the difference between a parka and a regular winter jacket?
As a rule, the parka has a voluminous hood with fur, a double fastener, one of which is a zipper, the second has Velcro or buttons, cuffs and large pockets. The design of the parka allows you to keep warm longer in frosty weather and calmly endure the wind. The material of the top of the parka is treated with a water-repellent impregnation.
Khaki, dark blue, brown and black are considered the most popular shades. Military-style jackets are in great demand among young people. For a long time, models with contrasting fur trim were at the height of fashion. Now parks are sewn in a wide variety of colors, including very bright ones.
The most fashionable parks in the winter 2022/2023 season
Despite the fact that traditionally the length of the parka does not fall below the middle of the thigh, this season designers suggest not to be shy about wearing parkas up to the middle of the calf. These jackets are even warmer and look no less stylish. They look good with jeans, sweatpants, leggings.
Parka with contrasting fur
Bright contrasting fur on the hood and lining will make the look more fresh and allow you to stand out in the crowd. With a relatively calm color scheme of the jacket, the fur can be neon pink, lime, orange, blue, blue, emerald and the like.
Designers for winter 2022/2023 offer another modified version of the parks, so to speak, two in one – very warm down parkas. The down filling will keep you warm even in the most severe frost, and the exterior of the jacket can be made in the form of a quilted fabric.
