Fatal Fall of Man During Police Response: SIU Investigating
The Special Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating cases of serious injury or death during a police intervention.
The Unit Ontario Special Investigations (SIU) will attempt to shed light on the death of a 32-year-old Toronto man who fell from an apartment window during a police response.
< p class="e-p">According to an SIU statement, Toronto Police Service officers were called to an apartment tower at the corner of Jane Street and Finch Avenue West around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, after receiving a call about a man throwing objects from a balcony.
Three police officers attempted to discuss with the man on site, according to the SIU. Three other Emergency Response Group officers arrived and attempted to negotiate with the man from a nearby apartment.
During the negotiations, the man fell by the apartment window. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four investigators and two SIU forensic scientists have been assigned to the case, and six witness officers have been named by unit.
The SIU asks anyone with information about this matter to come forward.
