Ferrari are returning to Le Mans after a 50-year absence and have created the 499P hybrid sports car specifically for this. By 2024, a production model will be developed based on it.
Ferrari has officially unveiled the 499P racing model. With it next year, the Italian team will return to the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans and the WEC Sports Prototype Championship. This was reported on the Ferrari page on Twitter.
The new Ferrari 499P is a streamlined coupe with well thought out aerodynamics. It has a huge wing and a keel on the roof, and the doors go up. The sports prototype is based on a lightweight carbon monocoque.
The racing car received a modified hybrid installation from the Ferrari 296 supercar. A 3.0-liter turbocharged petrol V6 and an electric motor develop a total of 680 hp. With. Dynamic characteristics are not disclosed, but during tests at the factory circuit in Fiorano, the supercar showed a record lap time.
Painting the car is special – it repeats the livery of the sports prototypes in the victorious race for Ferrari “12 hours of Sebring” in 1973. It is in Sebring that the Ferrari 499P will make its racing debut in March.
