“Given the active circulation of flu viruses, the flu vaccination campaign is extended until February 28, 2025,” announced Santé publique France (SPF), in a press release published this Wednesday. Given the scale of the epidemic, health authorities are strongly encouraging people to get vaccinated.

The campaign extended

“Health authorities are reminding us of the importance of collective mobilisation to slow the transmission of respiratory viruses and limit hospitalisations.” This is why the joint vaccination campaign against influenza and Covid-19 has been extended until 28 February 2025.

“Vaccination has a dual advantage, it is both individual and collective protection: the more people are vaccinated, the less the virus circulates. In addition, vaccination against influenza is an effective way to protect against severe forms of the disease, particularly for people at risk”, SPF note.

“Circulation of high intensity”

“The circulation of influenza viruses is still very active in mainland France and overseas”, deplores SPF. And furthermore, “the seasonal flu epidemic began early in mid-December. It was characterized by high-intensity circulation during the end-of-year holiday period and marked severity”.

Currently, the flu epidemic is still at a high level of intensity in all age groups. 67% of hospitalizations following influenza-like illnesses concern people aged 65 and over. Added to this is Covid, which continues to circulate.
