The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC Central Committee) on Sunday, October 23, elected 69-year-old Xi Jinping as party general secretary for an unprecedented third term. Thus, the politician remains at the head of the PRC for another five years. This was reported by Reuters.

In addition, Xi Jinping took the post of head of the Military Council of the CPC Central Committee for the third time in a row. At the same time, the two-term limit continues to apply to other members of the Chinese leadership.

As specified, the head of China presented the new composition of the Standing Committee of the Politburo – the highest governing body of the country, which included only his supporters. Thus, Xi Jinping secured the place of “the most powerful ruler of the country since the time of Mao Zedong,” the agency writes.

The new composition of the Politburo Standing Committee, in addition to Jinping himself, included six more people: Zhao Leji and Wang Huning, who were in the previous lineup, as well as newcomers Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Li Qiang. They are all believed to be closely linked to the Chinese Secretary General.

“This guide will focus on achieving Xi's political goals rather than their own goals of what they think is best for the country . There is only one right way to govern, and that is the X way,” commented Drew Thompson, visiting senior fellow at the National University of Singapore.

As part of the five-year party convention, it was decided to approve the consolidation Xi's ideology and his permanent leadership role in the party charter. Party members also demanded unconditional loyalty to Xi Jinping.
