National Safety Administration of the Road Traffic Agency reports that it has six reports of property damage and four reports of injuries potentially related to the problem.
The transmission on affected Ford (F) and SUV vehicles may not be in the park position, even if the position of the switch indicates that the vehicle has been moved to the park position. Drivers get out of the car while it rolls, according to the safety regulator, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
A similar problem with a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee caused the death of actor Anton Yelchin in 2016. Yelchin's Jeep rolled down the driveway and pinned him against a brick pillar in front of his Los Angeles home.
Fortunately, the NHTSA did not report any fatalities caused by this issue with the Ford recall.
Vehicles affected: 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion and 2013-2021 Transit Connect.
