The massive Ford Fiesta will be discontinued. A new generation of the model is not yet planned, because the Puma crossover will take its place in the brand line.
Ford is phasing out the Fiesta hatchback. One of the most massive models in the history of the brand will stop producing in mid-2023. This is reported by the British edition of Auto Express.
Sources at Ford Motor said that the Fiesta assembly is planned to be curtailed in less than a year. Officially, the press service of the concern has not yet confirmed the information, but said that electrification makes it necessary to revise the model range of the brand. Previously, the abandonment of the Ford Focus was already announced – it also fell victim to the optimization of the brand line.
The reason for the refusal of a rather popular model is most likely the introduction of more stringent Euro-7 eco-standards . They will significantly increase the cost of gasoline cars and the production of budget models with a small mark-up will become unprofitable.
The Ford Fiesta niche can be occupied by the Puma crossover built on the same platform. Its sales are growing, and in 2024 it will have an electric modification.
However, it is possible that the Fiesta will return after 2030, when all European Fords will become electric. In this case, it will become a compact urban electric car.
