DeLorean history< /h2>
John DeLorean worked for General Motors for a long time – he rose to vice president of the concern and created such legendary models as the Pontiac GTO and Firebird. However, he then left his high position and decided to found his own company.
The DeLorean DMC-12 coupe was developed by the famous Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. Features include lift-up doors and a polished, unpainted body.
Creating the model was accompanied by many problems. New eco-standards forced the installation of a low-power motor. The build quality of the first DeLorean turned out to be terrible, which sharply reduced the demand for the model.
As a result, in 1981-1983, the company produced about 8.5 thousand cars and went bankrupt. It is noteworthy that in the film “Back to the Future” the car was filmed after the production was stopped.
Recently, the new second-generation DeLorean was introduced – it will go into production from 2024 and will be a luxury electric car.
