Four dead and one injured in accident near Peterborough, Ontario
The road was closed to allow the accident reconstruction team to investigate.
A head-on collision between a pickup truck and an SUV killed four people on Tuesday, east of Peterborough, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
A fifth person was taken to hospital. His life is in danger, according to the police.
The accident happened on Highway 7 near Drummond Line. Police were called to the scene around 5:15 p.m.
OPP spokesman Sgt. Robert Simpson said one of the vehicles was traveling eastbound and the other heading west.
The cause of the accident had not yet been determined as of Tuesday evening. Crash reconstructionists were trying to figure out what happened.
A segment of Highway 7 was closed to traffic between Keene Road and Heritage Line.
No information was made public on the victims in the evening, because the police were still contacting relatives.
The PPO is asking witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers or anyone who may have videos of the crash to contact her.
Peterborough is located approximately 130 km northeast of Toronto.
