It's no secret that giant squid live in the local waters, but meeting a sea monster in the flesh is a great success.< /p> Related video

Giant squid are known to inhabit the waters around Japan. Sometimes their bodies with huge tentacles and eyes are found washed ashore, but meeting these “Cthulhu” of the underwater world in its usual habitat under water is extremely rare, writes Science Alert.

This time, luck smiled two divers, a married couple, Yosuke Tanaka and his wife Miki, who explored the seabed in the town of Taiaoka in the Hyogo region. When they visited a local fishing equipment vendor, he warned them that a giant squid was visiting a bay off the west coast of Japan.

Curious divers immediately set off in search of a monster and found it imposingly swimming near the rocky coastline. Divers note that it was something magical – the approximate size of the squid was about 2.5 meters.

According to Yosuke, they had never seen such a large sea creature before. However, what seemed most remarkable was that the divers did not notice the fast movements that many fish and other sea creatures demonstrate. It seemed as if the giant squid was busy meditating, and its long tentacles and fins moved very slowly in the water.

Tanaka also notes that the size of the squid and its eyes seemed striking to him and his wife. In the imagination of divers, a scene of a struggle between a huge squid and whales immediately surfaced, which, in fact, are one of the main threats to cephalopods.

The married couple watched the calm movements of the squid for a long time and thought only of one thing – not I would like to be trapped by his strong “arms” so that they grab and drag them into the abyss of the sea.

Tanaki and his wife suggest that this giant squid could be sick, because his movements also seemed very weak and ” lethargic.” In addition, divers have seen pieces of skin falling off its torso – perhaps this giant was resting off the coast of Japan after a skirmish with another predator.
