Ekaterina KOPANEVA, “FACTS”
In the West of Ukraine in the flood remain flooded 70 settlements. Experts say that the flood that happened in Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv and Ternopil regions, was the most terrible and devastating in 2008. Due to the intense rainfall and a raising of ground waters seriously damaged hundreds of homes, destroyed bridges and roads. The rains caused landslides, one of which destroyed a picturesque village in the Carpathians. In the Carpathians the victims of the disaster were three people. Killed were drowned in the river the car a man and a woman, and a pensioner who fell into a raging torrent of water.
The “FACTS” from the horse’s mouth managed to learn the details of what happened in the Carpathian region. Miroslaw nowosielski said the employees of the Antimonopoly saved her 11-year-old daughter Julia, were in the midst of terrible events. To the nearest town which is eight kilometers from the flooded village, the girl carried five hours.
In a month Julia will be 12 years. She was born just in time for the floods in the summer of 2008 (then as a result of natural disasters suffered Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, Ternopil and Vinnytsia region, killed 39 people. — Ed.). The day before her birth almost killed my father, — told the “FACTS” Miroslav Novosel’skaya. – The parents then had a big economy, and that he was trying to save the pigs. Water in the yard he was at the shoulders. In cold water I have a cramp legs. He would have drowned if not for sailing by the staff of the SES. They noticed him and saved.
The water then rose to the Windows of the family home. The entire first floor was destroyed… And now, consider the same. Parents three days lived on the second floor. When the water began to arrive (and it happened very quickly), parents are everything I could, moved from the basement to the first floor. And then the second… of Chickens, Chicks and cats were transported to the attic. We were sitting on the second floor and was preparing to take several of the neighbours who single-storey house. In such cases, the second floor becomes a salvation.
Miroslava daughter lives in Lviv. Says sister took Julia to a village by my grandparents just three days before the flood.
— At the time no one could not assume that this will begin, — said Miroslav. — I had to go to Kiev. Realizing that the risk in the way to be infected by the coronavirus, has decided on two weeks to send my daughter to my mom and dad. The day before the flood the daughter of my father, we went to look at the Dniester. They noticed that the water level in the river rose. Then it became known that in the Carpathians the rains began. And the next morning the water was in their yard.
— The water was coming from different sides, and it happened so fast! — told the “FACTS” mother Miroslava Anna Vasilievna. — A few of our Chicks, both of them, we did not have time to save them. Was in the water and five of our hives, the bees, of course, died. Saving the economy, the first time I saw the floats cock… We tried to lift into the attic and geese, but they jumped down and the next four days were swimming in the water near the house. The water left our entire yard. When the granddaughter on the morning of 22 June was out on the porch, she was terrified: “Grandma, it’s like a tsunami!”
Floods in our region, unfortunately, is not uncommon, but that Julia had not yet seen, — says Miroslav. — Very quickly in the house, which is located below, flooded half the first floor. Parents took to themselves the affected neighbors. In the house I had to turn off the gas, then electricity is not supplied. In such conditions it is impossible to even use the toilet, not to mention soul. To eat also can not, because there is no electricity and the kitchen was flooded.
The water continued to arrive, and I realized that I should immediately take out the daughter. Nobody knew what will happen next. I wanted to take, and parents, but they wouldn’t — couldn’t leave the house and rescued the economy. Through a friend I managed to get on the staff of the SES, who helped evacuate the Julia. First discussed the option to send her a helicopter. At seven o’clock in the morning dad said that you can still see the field on which you could sit. But after three hours there, too, everything is flooded. Therefore, employees of the Antimonopoly followed Julia on the boat. I drove to the village of Dibrova is eight kilometers away from the parent village. Then the car would not have passed, there is now only swim.
Eight kilometers of the employees of the SES, along with her daughter has overcome for five hours. During this time, they had five times changed boats. First was the usual bouncy, then wood (which, according to Julia, was very wet), then another inflatable, but with the motor… Our rescuers have done great job, but their technical support leaves much to be desired. They had two boats. One the next day ran into a fence that was under water. When you swim, do you not see that at the bottom — the water is terribly dirty. The daughter told me that in places where it was difficult to swim on the boat, rescuers carried her in his arms… Not wherever they sailed, was mobile communications. It only added to our experiences. At some point I could not reach Julia and mom someone called and reported that the boat employees of the Antimonopoly overturned. We didn’t know what to think…
Eight kilometres of employees of the Antimonopoly together with Julia has overcome for five hours
Luckily, the boat floated Julia, not turning, my daughter and everything was fine. She then told me how helped rescuers remove the boat falling into the water. “I remembered how we did it, when sailed with you on the Jordan river,” said Julia. Even my daughter remembered we had the right rafting on the Dniester is our annual tradition on independence Day. So Julia was a little prepared. Daughter knows how to swim but I told her in any case not to do — the water is terribly dirty and cold, it can easily reduce leg, as it was with my father in 2008.
When rescuers together with Julia swam to another village, from there daughter has had to pick up the car. First it sent “Field”, but it is not passed. In the result it took big car to deliver bread. After half a day Julia couldn’t speak. Now gradually coming to.
— I was afraid to let her granddaughter — says Anna. – In 2008 during the floods many people died. Someone was electrocuted, and someone drowned… It was scary. The only thing I was able to help the granddaughter to give her rubber boots… Thank God, Julia is alive and well. I was afraid that the boat will turn, the girl will fall into the water… You have no idea how dirty this water is. There are floating dead animals, garbage, feces… People for four days with nowhere to go to the toilet. They are, sorry for the details, were forced to relieve themselves in buckets and pour it all in the same water in the street. Now the water is coming to a close, and I can’t tell you what that smell is. Sick of it.
Our homes destroyed. On the ground floor, wet floors, walls absorb moisture. Furniture breaks, it’s thrown out. The technique is also unsuitable. Just before we made the repairs. And now the house is in such a state that it is impossible to live. On the second floor is also terrible dampness, fungus… Should be put on the table bread, as the next day it is completely moldy. And the bread is almost the only thing we ate all last week. Cook could not. Wait until we bring the bread and water.
Some neighbors lived in one-story huts. These houses practically went under water. Someone ran to the neighbors, someone in one of the above school, where several floors (a school, incidentally, is also badly damaged and needs to be restored). The neighbor’s grandmother told me that all four days spent under the roof of his house. “It was so stuffy. I thought I was going to die,” he says. Employees of the Antimonopoly picked up her drinking water…
Now the water is pumped out, but it comes back. So, the water level in the Dniester region remains high. We always fear of rain. Sunday, June 28, we again had heavy rain and a hurricane. A few trees uprooted, they fell on electrical wires… We live as on a powder keg. Do not understand what to do next, where to get money to restore the house.
— Moreover, now and will not start any repairs, because the walls are wet. It has to be dried, and this business not one day, — says Miroslav. – In 2008, we lost three at home. Two parent and my cottage in which I invested a lot of money and effort. It was all flooded, and when we were talking about payment, we said that if we are one family, hence, the compensation is put in just one house. Moreover, the cheapest. The money that we were given was not enough to repair even a single house. Dad was a farmer. Water flooded the grain, were destroyed all the equipment. This is a huge loss, and compensated only five thousand. Now, it seems that parents have lost the car. Don’t know if it can be repaired after four days she was in the water. A car is a must for them. Last year her mother became very ill and she was regularly required to visit the hospital. Without a car it’s impossible. It is hoped that this time we will receive compensation. And that this will not happen in six months, and in the near future — because people have nowhere to live. Now people are asked to photograph the scale of the losses and complete the online form for compensation. Of course, we’ll do it. But as it will make the old single grandmother who doesn’t even have mobile phones, no idea.
Chairman of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional state administration Vitaliy Fedorov said that to overcome the consequences of floods in the region need more than two billion hryvnia. Earlier, the “FACTS” published an interview with the ecologist, who said that the flood in Western Ukraine caused by deforestation in the Carpathians. The inhabitants of the flooded villages are sure that it is.
— Forests are cleared in the Carpathian mountains, and affects those who live below, we are, — said Miroslav. — If in the Carpathian mountains the rains, the water flows to us. Around our homes many trees. I remember the grandparents said that they are in any case can not be cut, because they retain water. But if it happens above, in the Carpathian mountains, our trees we will not be saved. Another problem is that recent years there are actively stealing river sand and gravel. It is transported by Trucks, sell (it is used in the construction). It also contributes to flooding. Parents ‘ village people do not cut down forests and do not take out the gravel. But they suffer from the effects of that. You live as on a powder keg. And it’s really scary.
