IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi may visit Ukraine and Russia again in the near future as part of efforts to establish a security zone around the Zaporozhye NPP. This is reported by Reuters.
“There is a possibility that I will return to Ukraine and Russia – this is, in fact, what we agreed on in principle. We are currently continuing consultations aimed at establishing a protection zone. This involves interaction, when I get answers and reactions from both sides, I am looking for new ways to move forward, and for this at some point, probably very soon, I will have to return,” Grossi said.
The head of the IAEA believes that the Russian Federation can use nuclear weapons in the war against Ukraine only as a “last resort”.
“Obviously, nothing can be ruled out, I am not in the decision-making mechanism in this country, but I think , that this would be a last resort,” the organization's director general said.
Earlier, Grossi said that the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant was unacceptable, and measures should be taken immediately to protect it.
