A 16-year-old boy was hit by projectiles in the lower body as shots were fired in front of the Chénier primary school in the borough d'Anjou, around 1 p.m. Thursday, according to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). The school, however, is neither involved nor affected in the event.
The youngster was taken to hospital, but there are no fears for his life.
He was reportedly hit by an air handgun. The SPVM estimates that he could have been injured by lead projectiles, plastic projectiles being less possible given the injuries.
According to the SPVM, a conflict broke out between two young people, including the victim, and gunfire ensued.
The SPVM has established a security perimeter around the Chénier school, but it is not in confinement and is neither involved nor hit by gunfire.
The suspect reportedly left the scene.
The SPVM is continuing its investigation and will view surveillance cameras, in addition to going door to door and meeting the victim.
