Victim of a tibial plateau fracture in the Kitzbühel super-G, former world champion Alexis Pinturault, 34, sees his season end.

French skier Alexis Pinturault, victim of a big fall during the Kitzbühel super-G on Friday, is suffering from a tibial plateau fracture in his right knee and must rest “about six weeks” before beginning rehabilitation, the French Ski Federation (FFS) said on Tuesday.

“The scan (carried out at the beginning of the week) confirms a fracture of the internal tibial plateau in the right knee. Alexis will have to observe a convalescence period of approximately six weeks before gradually starting an adapted rehabilitation protocol”, the FFS indicated in a press release. His season is therefore logically over.

Pursued by bad luck

The combined world champion (2023) and winner of the big crystal globe (2021), soon to be 34, fell after about twenty seconds of racing on Friday during the super-G in Kitzbühel, in a curve that caused many other skiers to make mistakes on Friday.

The first tests already showed “a large bone contusion of the internal tibial plateau with associated fracture as well as an injury to the internal meniscus”, the FFS had indicated on Friday evening. “It is difficult to understand, to analyze, to accept…”, wrote Pinturault on the social network Instagram on Tuesday.

“I now need time to see things more clearly”, added the skier from Courchevel, who had just returned from another serious injury – this time to the left knee – caused during a fall in Wengen (Switzerland) in January 2024.

After his fall in 2024, Pinturault had indicated that he had considered ending his career for a while but had finally decided to continue, with the Milan-Cortina Olympics in 2026 in perspective.
