Stan Wawrinka, the 39-year-old Swiss, lost in the first round of the Open Occitanie against Arthur Cazaux this Monday, January 27.

What is your analysis of your performance against Arthur Cazaux ?

It was a complicated match. He played well from the start. He was very aggressive. He got into his match well. Overall, it was a good match, at my level. Arthur was a little better. He served well at important moments. He knew how to dictate the exchanges when necessary. I had two or three small opportunities to come back in the first set. I made a little mistake in my choices. I paid for it right away.

Two or three little things. To be a little clearer on break points, on the slightly important points. To be perhaps a little more aggressive or to dictate the game a little better. As I said, he was the one who played a good match. He was solid. He was simply a little better.

“I hope Arthur will have a good tournament at home”

Are you, despite everything, satisfied with the sensations?

Satisfied is a strong word. But it was not a bad match. I missed two or three things.

What do you think of Arthur Cazaux's game ?

He's a very good player, very young. It's the first time we've played each other but it's not the first time I've seen him play. He serves well. He has potential, he can do everything, he moves well, he's aggressive, he defends. I hope he'll have a good tournament at home.

He found good areas, especially on the first serve. On the second, I had two or three opportunities to do a little better. It's the little things that make the difference.

At 40, how do you feel?

Personally, I think I'm still capable of playing good matches, being competitive. Physically and tennis-wise, I feel good. Now, I need to find these victories to find a little confidence and try to continue.
