According to scientists, the asteroid 2022 OE2 has a diameter of 170 to 380 meters and flies towards Earth at an incredibly high speed of 160 thousand km/h. On Wednesday, August 3, it will approach the Earth at a distance of 5.1 million km from our planet.

Astronomers rely on the amount of reflected light from such a space rock. The larger the asteroid, the more light it will reflect. According to NASA, nothing suggests that this asteroid will collide with Earth. It should fly by without posing a threat to the planet. According to scientists, during its approach to the Earth, the asteroid will be at a distance that is 13 times the distance to the Moon.
To date, scientists have already discovered tens of thousands of near-Earth asteroids, many of which are considered potentially dangerous for the Earth . After all, if at least one such space rock falls on the planet, it will cause significant damage even at the regional level.
NASA believes that in the next 100 years, none of the known asteroids should collide with the Earth. Unless some extraordinary event occurs, and the trajectory of its flight will change. But according to the latest forecasts, no such events are expected.

Therefore, in order to change the flight path of an asteroid potentially threatening the Earth, it will be possible with the help of a special spacecraft.
