They were highly anticipated, and they are now known. Arcom, the French audiovisual regulator, has just unveiled the new issues of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) that will be launched next June. These developments risk shaking up the habits of some viewers. Let's take stock.

A real upheaval for French television

There are indeed changes on DTT with the shutdowns of C8 and NRJ 12 as of February 28. The latter will be replaced by CMI TV and Ouest France TV. It should also be noted that Canal+ has decided to leave DTT. Arcom therefore took advantage of its back-to-school press conference on Monday, January 13, to unveil the new channel numbering.

Here is the list that will be officially launched from June 6, 2025:

Large groups on the lookout

On a practical level, don't panic, updates are done automatically on TVs, so you won't have to worry about it.

As a reminder, the major French audiovisual groups were far from being inactive before Arcom's decision. For example, TF1 and France Télévisions have expressed a desire to create channel blocks. This is also the case with the idea of grouping their continuous news channels, such as LCI and France Info, which occupy channels 26 and 27 respectively. As we can see, the four major news channels are now grouped together, even if LCP becomes 8.

As an industry expert explained last October: “All broadcasters want the most visible number possible, but if we move channels, we will have to demote others. This will lead to marketing costs and for channels that have their number in their name (like W9 or Chérie25), there would be a huge image issue “.
