Honda's low-cost electric model will be developed jointly with General Motors. The range of the car will be about 400 km.
Inexpensive electric car will join Honda's lineup. The information has already been confirmed by the senior managing director of the Japanese concern Shinji Aoyama. According to Motor1 website.
According to Shinji Aoyama, the new Honda with the working name AEV (affordable electric vehicle) will appear in 2027. Its starting price will be less than $30,000.
Honda is not in a hurry to share the details of the future model, but it is known that the development of an electric car is carried out jointly with General Motors. This is not the first joint project of the two auto giants – it was GM who helped create the first electric crossover of the Japanese brand Honda Prologue.
“We believe that complex cooperation is mutually beneficial, not only in terms of the car platform, but also in terms of procurement and “Collaboration is the future. Both Honda and GM have enough technology to build their own cars. Now the engineers of the two concerns are revealing the technologies that we have, and then trying to discuss what technologies can be optimal for both,” emphasized Shinji Aoyama.
Most likely, Honda's low-cost electric car will be built on the GM Ultium platform. It is used by the Honda Prologue, as well as the affordable Chevrolet Equinox electric crossover costing the same $ 30,000. In the basic version, the Equinox is equipped with a 210-horsepower engine and has a range of 400 km and, most likely, its Japanese counterpart will have similar characteristics.
