How to drive an overloaded car

A heavily loaded passenger car can go deceptively fast, but at the same time it will be poorly controlled. Experienced drivers know several techniques that will help to safely reach their destination in a car with a large load, informs Ukr.Media.

Before driving a heavily loaded car, experts advise adjusting the tire pressure. Many manufacturers indicate which is better suited for heavy duty tires. If there is no such information, it is better to add 0.2-0.4 bar to the usual value so as not to puncture the tires and damage the rims.

A large load in the trunk of most cars means unloaded front wheels. The steering wheel becomes deceptively light, but the car will react more slowly than usual.

Heavily loaded car can brake much worse than usual. On some models, the difference in the length of the braking distance reaches 4.5 m when braking from a speed of 100 km/h. That's why experienced drivers on a car with a heavy load try to keep the maximum possible distance.

A car with a heavy load has almost completely selected suspension travel. If you run into a wave-like unevenness of the asphalt without braking, you can lose control.

It is recommended to make turns in a smooth arc, assessing the trajectory in advance. Experienced drivers try to avoid overtaking and follow the general flow when the car is heavily loaded.

On a dirt road, experienced drivers try to drive a heavily loaded car twice as slowly as usual. Care must be taken not to "break through" suspension on bumps and pits.
