– In that sense, this is a common Schengen issue, that as long as the Schengen countries issue visas, the recipient of the visa is entitled to come to the Schengen area, i.e. to a country other than the visa-issuing country, Niinistö tells HS.

Strange and contradictory situation

According to Niinistö, it would be a strange and contradictory situation if Finland announced at the border that a visa issued by another Schengen country would not be honored at the border.

– I mean that the partners would behave differently: one grants and the other denies the granted visa . It is not a desirable situation at all, Niinistö says in an interview with HS.

According to Niinistö, the visa issue has two parts: matters related to the Schengen area and matters related to Finland's decision-making power.

According to him, the situation in Finland is influenced by extensive family connections across the border. Niinistö says that it is clear that Russia's actions will not be accepted. He emphasizes that hatred has not produced anything good in the world.
