Hurricane Orlene is heading towards the west coast of Mexico

Hurricane Orlene was downgraded to category 3 on Sunday when it should hit the Pacific coast of Mexico on Monday morning, between the resorts of Mazatlan and San Blas, located north of the city of Puerto Vallarta.
After becoming a hurricane on Saturday, Orlene quickly gained strength, reaching category 4 out of 5, with winds reaching 215 km/h, according to the National Center. l hurricanes. But the strength of its winds was later revised down to 185 km/h by midday on Sunday.
The storm was moving above or near Islas Marias, a former penal colony that is to be transformed into a tourist attraction area.
Orlene was expected to hit the Pacific coast of Mexico midday on Monday in a relatively sparsely populated, lagoon-strewn area in the south of the continent.
A hurricane warning was nevertheless in effect from San Blas (population 37,000) to Mazatlan (population 650,000). In these areas, but also in the city of Puerto Vallarta, schools will close on Monday and some emergency shelters have been opened. Some ports will also be closed.
At the end of the day on Sunday, the hurricane was located approximately 125 kilometers from the coast.
