Philippe Tabarot, the new Minister Delegate for Transport, learned of his appointment live on television. “I knew that my name was circulating, but I had no confirmation”, he explained on LCI. “I watched, like millions of French people, Alexis Kohler announce the composition of the government from the steps of the Élysée.”

Questioned by Nice-Matin, the LR senator from Alpes-Maritimes expressed his “joy of serving the country in these difficult times”, despite a “complex” political situation.

An arrival rushed

Once the government list was announced, Philippe Tabarot took the last flight to Paris. “We had to organize ourselves quickly to be present at the handover of power at 10am, with the outgoing minister François Durovray”, he says. At 54, he recalls this strong moment with emotion, thinking of his “90-year-old mother”.

A strategic choice

By appointing Philippe Tabarot to Transport, François Bayrou has chosen a specialist in mobility issues. Former vice-president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in charge of transport, the senator has been the rapporteur for the transport budget since 2020. He notably wrote a report on the deployment of low-emission zones.

In Nice-Matin, he said he was “operational immediately”, adding that there are “many things to improve in the transport sector”.
