IN BRIEF

  • Christophe Licata, a dancer on Dancing with the Stars, experienced a difficult period during season 12, marked by his uncle's illness and his wife's tumor.
  • He revealed his depression on the set of Ça commence aujourd'hui, explaining that consulting a psychologist was a turning point in his recovery.
  • Christophe Licata emphasizes the importance of family support and finding the right therapist to overcome depression.

Christophe Licata does not have a good memory of season 12 of Dancing with the Stars. During this period, the young man went through difficult times, as he recounts in his book Revelations. On one hand, his uncle's illness. On the other, the tumor behind his wife's eye. Bad news that accumulate and impact his mental health. Very quickly, Christophe Licata lets himself be overwhelmed by his emotions.

This Friday, January 24, it is on the set of Ça starts today that he decides to confide, with an open heart, about his depression. “At some point, I had to discuss, I had to confide, and that was a trigger for me”, he reveals. “That's where I saw a psychologist, that's where I started to heal myself, really. That's why it's still taboo to go see a psychologist, but I think the whole world should go see a psychologist”, he adds.

Christophe Licata (DALS): “I understood that I was depressed when…”

“Have you ever been told about depression at some point? ? Was this word pronounced ?”, asks Faustine Bollaert. To which Christophe Licata replies: “Afterwards, when I had to deal with doctors. But, I understood that I was depressed when I started to have dark thoughts. When I said to myself : 'in fact, Christophe, you're not well'”.

Dark thoughts that came when he was “alone in Paris”. I wanted to throw myself out the window, yes”, the professional dancer says. “I was in pain. And that's when I said to myself: no, you're not well, you have to do something,” he recalls. When he began taking antidepressants, he realized that they didn't have a good effect on him. “That turned me off even more. I was just sleeping. It wasn't the solution at all”, he specifies.

Christophe Licata: “It saved me”

A change in behavior that his parents noticed very quickly. “That's when my parents told me: 'whoa, you're weird. You're not normal, there's something wrong'. That's when I started telling my family”, he says. His sister advised him to go see a psychologist and stop taking the medication.

“I had seen psychologists, but I hadn't found the person who could help me free myself completely. And then I met Martine, whom I thank, and with whom I was able to really let things go, and that saved me. But it was above all my family who saved me”, he concluded.
