Parents of a special child suffer from both white and black fellow citizens
60-year-old Malcolm John and his 33-year-old civil wife Marva Home, who live in south London, faced an unexpected problem. When they were waiting for the birth of their daughter, they assumed that she would be dark-skinned (like dad), or with white skin with a swarthy tint (like mom). But Julia Mary came into this world with blond hair, blue eyes and pale skin. She has albinism, a rare genetic disorder that makes her skin very sensitive to sunlight (which can lead to skin cancer) and causes vision problems. Moreover, only two months after the birth of Julia-Mary, the doctor who observed the child was able to establish this diagnosis.
However, it was not at all the prospect for the girl to hide from the sun and wear glasses all her life that frightened her happy parents. Their special girl has been targeted for racist attacks almost from birth, Metro reports.. This happens especially often when she walks on the street with her dad. “People come up and ask what an elderly black man is doing with a little white girl. When Malcolm answers that this is his child, many do not believe and laugh. And some even thought that he had kidnapped the girl and wanted to call the police! At these moments, I it was a pity to look at my husband,” says Marva Houma. Once, one of the passers-by (and a black one!) Called Julia-Mary a “white monkey”, after which her mother lost her nerve and she went to the police with a complaint about discrimination based on skin color. And from both white and black compatriots.
But it's not all bad. At 15 months old, the albino girl is already making a good career in the children's modeling business. True, Julia-Mary's mother has become, as she herself calls it, “paranoid” in the matter of protecting the child from exposure to sunlight. And this brings inconvenience, for example, when filming a child in the daytime.
