Green and the Left party say that the government plan is not ambitious enough. In their view, Germany could abandon coal by 2030. Activists of the environmental organization Greenpeace (Greenpeace) held a protest in Berlin
Expert on climate Greenpeace Karsten Schmidt says: “We oppose the bill, it does not provide for the rejection of coal power plant while working and it also undermined the Paris agreement on climate change. This bill is a historical mistake, a mockery to the Paris agreement in the framework of the government provides the companies billions of euros without getting anything in return.”
Germany also refuses nuclear energy by 2022 the country will close the remaining nuclear power plants.
Meanwhile, activists of the NGO Ecodefense urged the German government to import coal from Kuzbass, where large-scale mining causes irreparable damage to nature.
