According to one of the passengers, the engine caught fire literally 5-7 seconds before takeoff. There were many elderly people and children in the cabin. Fire brigades arrived at the airport with fire extinguishers.
In footage posted on social media, the engine of the Indian low-cost airline IndiGo is seen on fire during takeoff from Delhi airport. This is reported by NDTV.
According to one of the passengers, the liner picked up speed on the runway, and sparks began to pour just before takeoff, but the pilot managed to stop.
“The plane could take off the ground in 5-7 seconds, and then I noticed sparks … then everything flared up,” he said.
It is reported that someone from those present in the cabin heard a loud sound.
“The plane was sent to the runway at about 9:40, and the fire started when it had already reached full speed, at 9:45. Passengers were given water, there were a lot of elderly people, a lot of children,” passenger Priyanka Kumar explained, adding that fire brigades arrived at the scene with fire extinguishers.
“During takeoff, the engine stopped. The takeoff was stopped and the liner returned to the hangar. All passengers changed plane,” the airline said.
