After diagnose malaria, a student from Kharkov, the disease was identified in Lviv — ill man, who has long worked in Africa.
As reported ZAXID.NET, 46-year-old resident Dnepropetrovskay region came to Lviv on business and felt bad, he had fever, had the fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, weakness. Doctors diagnosed him with tropical malaria.
About ill it is known that he worked for six years in Africa, in Uganda. According to the patient, preventive treatment of malaria were not protected from the mosquitoes with various sprays, nets and the like.
“His condition is of medium gravity. In time man has addressed for the help to physicians. Now he is on treatment in the regional infectious diseases hospital where they receive appropriate treatment”, — said the doctor-parasitologist, laboratory of Lviv regional center MOH Ukraine Ella Matiyash.
The publication notes that in the Lviv region annually capture one to three cases of malaria. The last case of p. falciparum were fixed in January 2019 — then ill 43-year-old Lviv businessman who had returned from Congo. He was in the hospital in serious condition — doctors failed to save the patient.
Of the four types of malaria, the most severe is tropical. It is transmitted from person to person through the bites of mosquitoes. 40% of the disease ends in death.
In the Center of public health of Ukraine warn that vaccines against this disease there, but it is preventable, treatable and curable.
“Symptoms of malaria usually appear 10-15 days after the infective mosquito bite. The first symptoms — fever, headache, heavy sweating, weakness may appear weak, difficult to recognize as malaria. It must be remembered that early symptoms of malaria are similar to the first signs of other diseases,” — noted in the center.
People who became ill during travel or within 1-3 years after returning from a country where there is a risk of malaria, you should immediately consult the doctors and tell about their trips. Treatment should start within the first 24 hours of symptoms, otherwise, malaria can be a serious disease that often ends in death.
