The Rostov-on-Don Garrison Military Court arrested Lieutenant General Viktor Voronov, Deputy Commander of the Southern Military District for Logistics, on charges of corruption. This was reported by the press service of the court.
The 61-year-old general is suspected of abuse of office, taking a bribe, inciting fraud and fraud on an especially large scale. The maximum sentence for these charges is 15 years in prison.
A representative of the court of the Southern District Military Court told Russian media reporters that Voronov is suspected of embezzling funds from the Russian Defense Ministry: he spent about 2 million rubles on the improvement of his house and land . On August 1, the district court will consider the general's complaint against the decision of the garrison court to arrest him.
In April, Russian journalists reported that one of the leaders of the FSB, Sergei Beseda, was transferred under arrest to the Lefortovo prison.
