In Sète, rugby is becoming more and more popular among the younger generations

The RC Sète school, increasingly supervised, sees its numbers increase significantly.

Little by little, the Rugby Club Sétois is making its way by putting the oval ball in the hands of the youngest. Halfway through the season, under the direction of Adrian Kerbiguet and Sébastien Vergara, the club has sixty children under 14, an increase of 15% compared to last year, as well as four cadets and seven juniors, some playing in seniors and others in an agreement with Poussan.

Structuring in progress

The supervisory staff has also evolved well with twelve educators (compared to six last year). Three have been trained at the club, six are in training and three others serve as supervisors. The structuring is therefore still in progress, for a club that now has five employees with a BPJEPS, two civic jobs, a work-study student for communication and a bus driver.

And the influence on the city logically goes hand in hand. The Agora municipal des sports thus allows to reach four classes every Thursday, or a hundred students who can try rugby every week. The club is also present during the summer multi-sport courses in partnership with the city's sports department, offers rugby and multi-sport improvement courses during the school holidays and also offers charitable actions such as during the Telethon or via a distribution of gifts with the Espace Renaissance.

What was, a few years ago, the club's main weakness is perhaps becoming a strength. The momentum is good and the projects are there. “At the end of the year, we plan to organize a five-a-side rugby tournament for leisure and another this summer at the beach, for young and old”, declares Adrian Kerbiguet. “Normally, we should be labeled “FFR rugby school” at the end of the season, so we could organize an official tournament. As for the sportsman, the training is structured, the youngsters are progressing well, it's the way to go to improve. All this to train seniors, so that young Sète players can move up to the first team in the medium term.” Youth is the future of any sports club.
