The police detained 27 people involved in the illegal scheme and smuggling of tobacco. Ukrainians were given temporary housing, but were not allowed to go outside so as not to draw attention to themselves.
The Spanish police, in cooperation with Interpol, uncovered an illegal network of tobacco factories in the country that exploited refugees from Ukraine. This was reported on the official website of the Spanish Civil Guard.
We are talking about three clandestine tobacco factories in LogroƱo, Valencia and Seville, where 10 tons of tobacco leaves and 3.5 million packs without excise seals were confiscated for a total amount of more than 37.5 million euros.
During a special operation, members of the Civil Guard arrested 27 people who used Ukrainian migrants to produce cigarettes. During 24 searches, the police seized jewelry and cars from the suspects.
Some citizens of Ukraine arrived in the country illegally, the press service of the Spanish police said. The rest came as asylum seekers after Russia's full-scale invasion.
The attackers provided Ukrainians with temporary housing, but people practically did not leave the premises so as not to be detected.
The production capacity of factories with the most modern equipment was about 540 thousand packs per day.
As noted, the suspects not only supplied tobacco products to different cities in Spain, but also smuggled tobacco to other countries.
