American startup Aptera Motors is preparing to start production of its debut model, a solar-powered electric car. The first cars should roll off the assembly line before the end of this year. Details of the novelty were revealed on the official website of the company.
The Aptera electric car has been in development since 2019. The original model has already collected 40,000 pre-orders. At the first stage, they plan to release 5,000 machines of the Limited Edition Launch Edition for $29,800.
Aptera is a two-seater three-wheeled coupe with an original design. Its drop-shaped shape contributes to excellent aerodynamics – the car has a record low (0.13) drag coefficient. Doors swing up like supercars.
The car body is made of carbon fiber and other composite materials. It is not painted, but glued with a special film of different colors.
Aptera Launch Edition dimensions:
- Length – 4550 mm
- Width – 2230 mm
- Height – 1400mm
- Wheelbase – 2820mm
A significant part of the car is covered with solar panels. In clear weather, they provide 64 km of range per day, that is, theoretically, an electric car can not be recharged.
A steering wheel and two displays are installed in the cabin. The Aptera electric car has a spacious 920-liter trunk.
Aptera Launch Edition accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds, and its top speed is limited to 160 km/h. It has a range of 640 km and a quick charge of the battery takes an hour.
A $46,000 version with a huge range of 1,600 km will later expand the lineup. Also expected is a $25,900 entry-level variant capable of 400 km on a single charge.
