From mid-December, car owners will be able to issue plastic documents or an electronic version that can completely replace the traditional driver's license
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted amendments to two regulations governing the receipt of a driver's license and a vehicle registration certificate. According to the changes, Ukrainian drivers from December 14 will have a choice: either to issue a traditional plastic license, or to issue onlyelectronic version of documents. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
“In the near future, it will no longer be mandatory to receive plastic forms of documents on the right to drive vehicles and register vehicles,” the message says.
It is noted that now the E-driver's license and the E-certificate of registration of vehicles can become the only document evidencing the right to drive a car.
“A driver's license or a vehicle registration certificate in the Driver's Electronic Account or in the Diya application not only becomes equivalent to physical documents, but can completely replace them,” said Nikolay Rudyk, head of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The changes are being made against the backdrop of digitalization of services, which will significantly simplify the issuance of driver's licenses. Vehicle owners will be able to exchange a driver’s license in a few clicks, as well as carry out registration actions with a car in cases where an inspection by specialists from the expert service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is not mandatory.
In addition, the innovation essentially makes it possible to save money, because now it will not be necessary to pay for plastic forms.
A bill has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada that allows category B driver's licenses to be granted to teenagers aged 16 and over. The explanatory note said that this step will help increase the “legal awareness” of young people in the field of traffic rules.
