Industry Committee holds meeting on Rogers-Shaw deal

The proposed merger, valued at 26 billion dollars, reached a new milestone recently.

The committee of industry and House of Commons Technology meets on Wednesday to consider Rogers Communications' proposed takeover of Shaw Communications.

The committee previously reviewed the merger in March and recommended that not proceed with the transaction.

The purpose of this final meeting is to review a revised proposal which includes the ve from Freedom Mobile, owned by Shaw, to Videotron, owned by Quebecor.

Speakers at the meeting include members of the Competition Bureau, external competition experts and company representatives, including Rogers CEO Tony Staffieri.

The meeting comes a day after the Federal Court of Appeals denied an appeal of the Competition Bureau seeking to overturn the approval of the agreement by the Competition Tribunal.

The Minister of Industry, François-Philippe Champagne, who has yet to approve the transaction, said he is reviewing the Federal Court of Appeals decision and will issue a ruling on the transaction in due course.
