After a half day on the run, inmate Joyce Kringuk surrendered to Winnipeg police at approximately 11:50 a.m. on December 27.
The day before, the woman sentenced to life in prison for the second degree murder of her spouse had escaped from the Eagle Woman Healing Lodge in Winnipeg by exiting the building's back door .
The Correctional Service Canada press release states that it is a minimum security institution.
Correctional Service Canada and the lodge ensure that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
The safety of institutions, staff and the public remains the top priority of officials federal correctional system operations, the statement said.
