Interim agreement averts strikes at six out of eight casinos in Ontario

An interim agreement has been reached between the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (GCGC) and the union representing workers at several Ontario casinos.

An interim agreement has been reached between the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (GCGC) and the union representing workers at several Ontario casinos.

Unifor, the union that represents the workers, issued a strike mandate on July 18, saying 1,830 workers at eight GCGC facilities would walk off the job at 12:01 a.m. Saturday if a deal could not be reached.

The union issued a statement on Saturday morning announcing that tentative agreements had been signed by bargaining committees at the following establishments: Great Blue Heron Casino, Woodbine Casino, Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands, Shorelines Casino Peterborough, Elements Casino Mohawk and Elements Casino Brantford.

Negotiations continue between the company and Unifor members at the Pickering Casino Resort and Casino Ajax, where workers will be on strike until until an agreement is reached.

Votes to ratify the agreements will take place next week.
