Invincible: the live action film is still possible in addition to the Amazon series

The live action film project adapting the Invincible comic book is still in the works and can thank the Amazon Prime Video animated series.

Like The Authority, The Boys or Kick-Ass, /strong> Invinciblecreated by Robert Kirkman symbolizes the fierce, virulent comic book, which concedes nothing to the system and does not spare its readership. Its scenario deconstructing certain superheroic figures and its layout have fascinated the public and the critics. The aura of Invincibledid not fail to attract the attention of Hollywood: Seth Rogen (The Walking Dead) and Evan Goldberg had shown interest in Robert Kirkman's work several years ago. They wanted nothing less than to bring the adventures of Mark Grayson to the big screen with the support of Universal.

Since then, little news has filtered around this project. One could even imagine that it had been abandoned, especially since in the meantime, Amazon has adapted Invinciblein the form of an animated series, which has established itself as a real nugget of the genre. The success of this series, whose teaser for season 2 has just been unveiled, could have definitively buried the hopes of a live action film Invincible. Except that Robert Kirkman put a coin back in the machine.

Indeed, the author of Invincible told ComicBook.com that the live action dedicated to his comic book was still considered:

“ We are still working on this project… Sometimes the production of a feature film takes a little longer. I think it's safe to say that the series has helped tremendously to support this project. People are very excited about the potential of this adaptation at Universal. So we're taking advantage of that excitement and trying to get things done as quickly as possible. »

If we are to believe the words of Robert Kirkman, the triumph of the Amazon series could help accelerate the start of this live action. It is obvious that Universal undoubtedly wants to follow in the footsteps of the platform that demonstrated all the richness offered by the original material. For once, opportunism may have positive repercussions if the feature film materializes. Besides, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg still seem committed to writing the screenplay.

For those who haven't read the original comic book or watched the Amazon series, Invincible tells the hard learning of Mark Grayson, a teenager who inherited his father's powers, a powerful superhero Omni-Man (a sort of Superman). The boy will have to juggle his life as an ordinary high school student, his integration into a team of young super prodigies and the shadow of a threat capable of enslaving humanity. On paper or on the small screen, Invincible does not hesitate to use uninhibited violence and to employ a mature tone. Ingredients that we hope to find in the possible live action film.

Anyway, Robert Kirkman's declaration will delight all lovers of Invincible (and there are many of them, including among the editorial staff) and we will follow the progress of this project closely. As for the animated series, its new season should land on Amazon at the end of this year 2023.
