Renowned director James Cameron set out to prove once and for all that Jack couldn't have survived the Titanic movie, contrary to what the audience thought. He spoke about this in an interview with the Toronto Sun.
“Titanic” was released in 1997, and since then, many viewers are unhappy with the ending, where the main character named Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) drowns, and his girlfriend (Kate Winslet) escapes on a wooden door. Many people are sure that if the girl moved, then there would be enough space on the raft for both of them.
For about 25 years, James Cameron stubbornly argued that Jack had to die for the sake of the tragedy of the moment, but now he plans to prove with the help of science that the heroes physically had no other choice. To do this, the director has conducted research and will show the results in a new documentary, which will be released in February 2023 on the National Geographic Channel in honor of Valentine's Day.
According to the director, the team, with the help of a hypothermia specialist, reproduced the same raft from the Titanic and conducted a thorough forensic analysis, simulating the situation from the film. Two stuntmen, weighing as much as Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet at the time of filming, were placed in cold water with a set of external and internal sensors. The researchers tried many methods and made sure that only one person could survive in such a situation.
“He had to die. It's like Romeo and Juliet. This is a film about love, sacrifice and mortality. Love is measured by sacrifice”, – James Cameron commented on the fate of Jack and said that he did not regret the sad ending of the Titanic. “Maybe in 25 years I won't have to face it anymore.”
In the meantime, James Cameron has released a new movie, Avatar 2: The Way of the Water. The continuation of the original avatar fans have been waiting for 13 years, and now leave rave reviews after the premiere.
Recently, the star of “Titanic” Kate Winslet told how she was criticized because of the figure. According to the actress, in the theater studio they called her “fat” and predicted an unenviable career, and the 14-year-old girl took such words hard. Now the situation in the film industry has changed for the better.
