After several rumors, a new actress has joined Joaquin Phoenix in the cast of DC's sequel, Joker: Crazy Together.
A thousand leagues away from Warner's crappy problems and strategy changes – which sacrificed Batgirl, the sequel to Scooby! and possibly the Supergirl movie – Joker sequel quietly continues pre-production. Unlike several projects stamped Warner or DC, Joker: Folie à Deux should not represent a risk for the studio after the critical and commercial triumph of the first part, even if the next film could take a turn very different and quite unexpected compared to the previous film.
Days after director Todd Phillips announced the development of a new film – despite earlier claiming that Jokerwas not designed to have a sequel -, first rumors were relayed in the specialized press: Joker 2 would be a musical with a new Harley Quinn played by Lady Gaga. None of this had been confirmed or denied until the actress and singer recently posted a first teaser announcement on Twitter.

If she will therefore be part of the main cast with Joaquin Phoenix, nothing confirms for the moment that she will actually play Harley Quinn or a revisits this cult character played by Margot Robbie in the DCEU. On the other hand, the teaser implies that it could indeed be a musical film, which would justify this casting choice a little more.
If she started shooting in films as early as Machete Kills in 2013 and made a notable appearance in the series American Horror Story , it wasn't until A Star is Born in 2018 that real name Stefani Germanotta really gained recognition as an actress (with a first Oscar nomination for Best Actress). She also starred in the recent House of Gucciby Ridley Scott, despite the film's failure both artistically and commercially.
Lady Gaga aims bigger
Joker 2 should thus take place at Arkham Asylum where Arthur Fleck was locked up at the end of the first opus. This is where he should meet the character of Lady Gaga who could therefore return to the origins of Harley Quinn, when she was still known as the psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel. The theatrical release of Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled for October 4, 2024 in the United States with filming beginning next December.
Casting announcements and information on the screenplay co-written by Todd Phillips and Scott Silver should therefore be linked in the coming months. If Jared Leto's should completely disappear after the Snyder Cut, the Clown Prince of Crime will also be present in the DC Batverse as Barry Keoghan after his appearance at the end of The Batman.
